Yemgas - Yemen

Yemen LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas)

The biggest industrial investment project ever undertaken in Yemen should be completed by late 2008/early 2009. Started in 2005, this project includes the construction of a gas liquefaction plant and a loading terminal (not to mention the construction of methane tankers) and is budgeted at nearly USD 4 billion. The seven partners in the project (which includes Total, Hunt Oil and Yemen Gas Company) anticipate that 480 billion cubic metres of gas will be extracted over 25 to 30 years of operation. Nevertheless they will make a full return on their investment in the first six months of operation!

The French oil-industry services group Technip, the Japanese company JGC (Japan Gas Company) and the American company KBR (Kellogg Brown & Root) have created the joint venture Yemgas which is responsible for building the natural gas liquefaction plant. CIAT's references in the Middle East and that of Total were sufficient recommendation to secure the HVAC contract for the entire site. CIAT proposed several offers through KBR engineering, which was responsible for consolidating the project. KBR validated our equipment and product ranges during the visit to our plants. Furthermore, CIAT organised the complex logistics which was needed to transport the equipment by truck.

The expectations of such a customer

Yemgas needed a company with a strong brand image and capable of assisting and guiding them in such a major investment.

The demanding requirements of this type of project were also the reason behind choosing CIAT. Production under quality control (Quality Assurance Program), rigorous compliance with specifications and the provision of supporting documents (SDRL) were all factors in CIAT's success in this project.

The coastline of the Gulf of Aden is one of the hottest regions in the world. The arid climate in the region of Safer required high-quality equipment able to resist sandstorms and humid conditions reaching 40°C during the day and falling to 28°C at night!

CIAT's solution

CIAT has installed two POWERCIAT water chillers: one LXH 2800X HPS (650 kW cooling capacity) and one LXH 2150X (460 kW cooling capacity). Both feature integrated hydraulic modules. The LXH 2800X HPS is equipped with the High Power System for around 15% higher cooling capacity and, as a result, improved energy performance (EER), in particular for reduced power consumption. All POWERCIAT units are also equipped as standard with Bitzer screw compressors. CIAT has also installed a third water chiller, the AQUACIAT 2 LDH 240V. It features Scroll technology as standard, uses R410A refrigerant for high energy efficiency, and is equipped with a self-regulating electronic control system.

CIAT has also supplied nine Climaciat Airtech air handling units of various sizes able to handle 1,000 to 37,000 m3 of air per hour, and smoke extraction systems.

Thanks to these successes, CIAT continues to consolidate its influence on the industrial market and oil fields, thus demonstrating its ambitions for future projects, such as in Nigeria, the UAE, Siberia, or Yemen, and an offshore rig in the Caspian Sea off the coast of Kazakhstan.
