In early 2008 the brand new Institut de la Vision opened its doors on the site of the "Centre Hospitalier National d'Ophtalmologie (CHNO) des Quinze-Vingts" in Paris.
Supported from the outset by Inserm and Université Pierre-et-Marie-Curie, this multidisciplinary research institute has the objective of pooling knowledge and techniques to make great strides in vision and ocular illnesses.
Researchers, clinicians and industrialists work together in 6,000 m² of space to understand, discover and test the treatments and technological innovations of tomorrow. The 12 research teams (Inserm, Université Pierre-et-Marie-Curie, CNRS, etc.) that make up the centre, one of the largest specialised hospitals in the world, will conduct research on how visual information is processed, how the visual system develops, the genetics of ocular disorders and innovations in therapy. This new institute has almost 400 researchers and clinicians, some of whom have on-site accommodation. In all, the research centre, offices and accommodation cover 11,400 m² of space.
The specificity of this project is that it is the first public-private partnership (PPP) to be concluded in France and established within the frame of an "Emphyteutic hospital lease". This arrangement allows hospitals to use private funds to construct buildings on private property placed at its disposal. In this case, the Caisse des depots, Caisse d'épargne and Icade provided the property and funding. It will operate the side for 30 years.
In this project, CIAT has implemented its experience in the healthcare, office buildings and the hotel sector.
For optimum sterility, the CIAT group has equipped the research laboratory with 20 "all-air" Climaciat Concept Airtech air handling units. Designed specifically for use in laboratories, these units are equipped with hygienic condensate drain trays and all-stainless-steel droplet separators. Four Major 2 fan coil units and 70 Coadis comfort units, with high-performance noise insulation, distribute clean air using the Coanda effect, thus providing the researchers and clinicians with greater comfort and a better working environment.
The office building and the accommodation are equipped with Climaciat Concept Airtech air handling units and 220 Coadis cassette units.
The air inside buildings dedicated to healthcare must be sterile. Thanks to its air handling experience CIAT was able to address this issue.
